I wanted to make a choclate Maneki Neko for my wife and the result was really more than i expected. The surface is not as smooth as i wanted to be, but it was good enough.
The first thing is to make the correct mold for the choclate which was made out of FDA food safe silicone. But to build the mold, i needed to print a 3d model first. Sadly i had to use big layer distances to print it faster. Thinner layers would be great but my time was limited. The Model went out far good, it was made out of PLA.
After the 3d print was ready i prepared some thick paper sheets for the mold and got to work pouring. Because i do not own a vacuum chamber i was glad that there were astonishing few disturbing bubbles.
As you can see, the Wrapper was not completely tight and i needed to improvise, but it went out to be okayish :).
After tempering the silicone mold, i was ready to start and first started to temper white choclate for the ears and tail and foot's.
For the bell and the seal i also used white choclate but colored it with gold food safe coloring (as seen in the final image at the top of this page). After the seperated parts were ready i put the two parts together and fixed them with rubber bands and started pouring choclate layers into it until i was satisfied that the choclate would not break when unforming.
That's it. The result was really good and had some Kcal in it :D.
